To further a Dealer’s influence in their market and to assist Powell artists in becoming better known, Powell will agree to promote artists in conjunction with Dealers in recitals and masterclasses.

Below are a set of guidelines to which Dealers must agree in order for Powell to pursue sponsoring an event.

POWELL RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Total or partial artists fees for the recital & master classes (to be determined on a case by case basis). Powell will always pay their portion directly to the artist.
  • Artists travel (airfare, ground transportation, food) and reservations.
  • Brochures and miscellaneous Powell literature will be provided by Powell.

DEALER RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Reserving and paying for the hotel costs for the artist during the visit.
  • Scheduling of the venue* and any fees associated with room rental or use.
  • If a piano is required and not provided by the venue, the dealer is responsible for piano rental and delivery.
  • If necessary, tuning of the piano.
  • Scheduling of accompanist for the recital and paying their fees.
  • Scheduling of a venue and time for the accompanist and artist to rehearse (if necessary).
  • Printing of the program for the event.
  • Water, snacks, miscellaneous needs for the performers during the event.
  • Arrange 2-3 individuals to act as ushers throughout the event (including program distribution, ticket/money takers at the door, etc)
  • If necessary, adornment of the stage with flowers or other appropriate decorations.
  • Creation & printing of the program for the event.
SHARED RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Promotion
    • Powell will provide the dealer with a postcard/handout (either pre-printed or electronic file) to distribute to their customers and mailing list.
    • Powell will send an e-mail announcement to contacts in the area.
    • Dealer is expected to send an e-mail to their list (if applicable).
    • Dealer is expected to actively promote the event on their website and in their store.
    • In the US , Powell will contact local media (newspapers, magazines, etc) to place a listing in their calendar section and try to secure an interview or news story.
  • Scheduling
    • Powell will work as the liaison between the dealer and the artist to finalize date/time schedules.
  • Fees:
    • If a dealer requests more events than Powell has budgeted to fund, the dealer is responsible for the difference.

Ways to offset your expenses:

  • Charge an admission fee to perform or audit a master class
  • Charge an admission fee for a recital.
  • Use a local school or church that will not charge a rental fee.
  • In a master class, depending on the artist, performers can be asked to play only pieces for flute alone, or orchestral excerpts. (This must be agreed upon by the artist giving the class.)

*Powell has the right to approve the requested recital venue.
